Ubuntu chooses Unity as default desktop
This office was already the default for the version of Ubuntu Netbook 10.10. Mark Shuttleworth has announced that he would now be for all versions. Of course there will always be possible to install the next version of GNOME, KDE (Kubuntu) or other environments.
This decision is a direct consequence of differences between the President of Canonical, the company that supports the development of Ubuntu, and GNOME teams (including its designers).
At a press conference, Mark Shuttleworth has publicly noted the disagreements on the menu for launching applications or how to do research – among other central elements of a UI.
